Movie Meals
Movie Meals is a concept I designed to potentially open up concessions and meal delivery opportunities for the theater, whether at home before heading out, or from the theater seat itself.

It's like Uber Eats, for the Movies!

The Challenge
Concessions at a theater are limited. What could be done for both the user and meal providers to fill their needs?
User Research
Pain Points
After conducting competitive audits, study plan, and 20+ user research interviews, the main pain points were fleshed out:
1. Lines - For a movie theater, time is key. If an individual is late to the show, there's no time to put an order in.
2. Limited Options - Potential users who look for snacks and meals available most often don't like the options presented.
3. Price - It's how the theater makes their profit - but that doesn't mean everyone's in on this.

Wireframes & Prototypes
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base designs on feedback and findings from my user research.
Lo-Fi Prototype
Easy determination of order status was a user need to address in the design in addition to equipping the app to work with assistive technologies.
Hi-Fi Prototype
The prototype followed a modified user flow from the Lo-Fi prototype - it included the design changes made after the usability study.

Reflection & Lessons Learned
Not Just Concessions
I originally created this concept considering the concessions stand at the theater. When it was all said and done, I realized that this potential app can very well apply to any number of kitchens that are willing to participate in, and benefit from, Movie Meals. Research and input from a provider's perspective would have been valuable to open up their perspective for receiving and providing orders.
Improving B2B Services
While this application at a high level considers the wants of the users - components need to be made to cater to the needs of individual theaters. In the best case scenario, they can create and modify seat grids for each screen seamlessly. Another case study could be created just to peer deeper into the enterprise companion app.
