Movie Meals
Movie Meals is an app designed to open up snack and meal delivery opportunities for the theater.

It's like Uber Eats for the Movies!

As I was watching the order get prepared, I saw my vendor drop several chits of paper containing other orders- A step I'd be very much happy to eliminate for them to deal with in the first place. As a result, I got to work on this meal delivery app.

Hope you enjoy my passion project. For an extended background regarding this project, please have a look at my slide deck.

Problem
People at the theater have problems gaining access to snacks and meals at the counter. How can we make this process simpler?
Goal
To design an app that allows users to easily order movie snacks for pick-up or delivery to the movie theater.
User Research: Pain Points
After conducting competitive audits, study plan, and 20+ user research interviews, the main pain points were fleshed out:
1. Lines
For a movie theater, time is key. If you’re late to the show, it can really put a dent on the user’s experience watching a movie.

2. Limited Options
Users who look at the snacks and meals available most often don’t like the options presented.

3. Price
Some avoid buying snacks or meals altogether due to the price-point.
Persona: Jeff
Jeff revealed himself as one of the standard persona app users.
Jeff's User Journey
The user journey revealed how helpful it would be to have more access to concessions, if not a full meal with their movie.

Digital Lo-Fi Wireframes
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base designs on feedback and findings from my user research.
Lo-Fi Prototype
Easy determination of order status was a user need to address in the design in addition to equipping the app to work with assistive technologies
Hi-Fi Prototype
The Hi-Fi prototype followed the same user flow as the Lo-Fi prototype and included the design changes made after the usability study.

Lessons Learned
1. Not Just Concessions
I originally wrote this app considering the concessions stand at the theater. I quickly realized that this app can very well apply to any number of kitchens that are willing to participate in, and benefit from, Movie Meals. This would also enable small food businesses opportunities to provide movie theater services without depending on the movie-goer to be "hush-hush" about it.

2. Improving B2B Services
A a result of creating a user-friendly seat delivery solution at the theater, a business-side requirement is then created - Enabling the movie theater to not just work with other food providers, but to also customize and create their movie and seat-delivery grid. While this will not serve the target user audience, another case-study can be created to create a business companion app.
